Thangkas are precious artworks, and proper mounting and care are essential. A well-maintained Thangka can last for centuries.
Traditional Mounting
Tibetan mounting uses a three-section silk brocade structure: upper section (heaven), painting, lower section (earth). The painting is framed with colored brocade trim, finished with red or yellow brocade borders, and includes a protective silk cover curtain.
Daily Care Tips
- Avoid direct sunlight — UV rays fade mineral pigments
- Keep dry, humidity 45%-55%
- Keep away from smoke and cooking fumes
- Dust gently with a soft brush periodically
- When rolling, roll from bottom to top with the painting facing outward
